Families with Children from China is a volunteer network of families who have adopted from China. Its purpose is to support adoptive families, parents prior to adoption and children still waiting in China’s orphanages. FCCs provide social events where children can meet other adopted children, where adults can learn about issues in adoption and about Chinese culture, and where families can maintain a link to the children still in China’s orphanages through the FCC Orphanage Appeal American families have adopted more than 50,000 children from China, starting in the early 1990s. More Americans go to China for international adoption than any other country. From the beginning, parents have actively sought to connect with Chinese culture and with other Chinese adoptive families. Many children appreciate knowing other families formed like their own families. One of the reasons parents choose to adopt in China is the large adoptive community available to their children. There are more than 100 FCCs worldwide. Each is an independent organization. Most FCCs are located in the United States and Canada, but also exist in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Australia and Norway, among other countries. Some FCCs have a few dozen members, while other FCCs have 500 or more members. FCCs range from informal groups to legally incorporated organizations, which provide a variety of services. All FCCs encourage volunteer support, which keeps FCC membership accessible to every family. For more information about FCC and a listing of FCCs, please go to www.fwcc.org.
